Rehoboam's Folly
We are continuing our study today of the kings of Israel. We left off with Solomon and now we are at Rehoboam his son. This is an interesting time because it is a turning point in the nation of Israel and from this point forward things become steadily worse. You may wonder why we look back at the kings of old, especially the evil ones. They were put in the Bible for us to study and learn from. Looking at them helps us see what they did wrong and where the cracks came in their foundation, and that way, we know what to avoid. Secondly, studying the kings helps us look for the sound decisions they made and the good they did so we can emulate them in those areas. It also helps us learn from their mistakes. I think the biggest lesson to take from Rehoboam’s story is that we all have moments in our own life when the decisions we make can significantly impact us, our future, our children and their future. The key is to prepare our hearts before hard times by spending time with Father in worship and building a relationship with Him. That way, when the hard times come, we can clearly hear Him and how to respond. Join me today!
