The War Against Kingdom Identity
Losing the Mind of a King
One of the greatest tragedies in modern Christianity is not simply sin — it is identity amnesia. Many believers have accepted Jesus as Savior yet continue thinking like spiritual paupers instead of kingdom citizens. They know Heaven exists, but they do not understand their position within it.
This is why identity is so heavily attacked by darkness.
If Satan can distort how believers see themselves, he can weaken how they rule, pray, speak, govern, and represent Christ in the earth. A believer uncertain of identity becomes spiritually passive. They begin living beneath covenant realities while possessing authority they never exercise.
1 Peter 2:9 says:
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people…”
This verse is governmental language.
Kingdom language.
Royal language.
Peter was not describing weak, defeated people barely surviving until Heaven. He was describing a spiritual nation carrying divine authority in the earth under Christ the King.
Most believers read this devotionally.
Peter wrote it constitutionally.
Chosen Means Selected by Deliberate Intention
The word “chosen” in Greek is eklektos, meaning “chosen, select, picked out carefully.” It carries the idea of deliberate selection with thoughtful consideration.
God did not accidentally save you.
He intentionally selected you.
This completely destroys orphan thinking.
Orphans think:
“I am forgotten.”
“I am overlooked.”
“I am unworthy.”
But kingdom identity begins with understanding that Heaven chose you before you ever chose Him.
Ephesians 1:4 says:
“He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world…”
Identity did not originate in your performance.
It originated in God’s decision.
This means your worth cannot be measured by:
success,
failure,
gifting,
money,
title,
popularity,
or even personal weakness.
Your value is established by the price Heaven paid for you and the One who selected you.
The cross reveals value.
People protect what they value.
They sacrifice for what they value.
God sacrificed His Son.
Royal Priesthood
Peter then says we are a “royal priesthood.”
The word royal is basileios, meaning “royal, kingly, belonging to the king.” It refers to those carrying royal dignity and authority connected to the throne.
Priests represented God.
Kings governed on behalf of God.
Under the New Covenant, Heaven merged both realities together in Christ.
We are now called to:
minister unto God,
represent Him in the earth,
and carry spiritual authority.
This is why believers must stop separating worship from dominion.
Prayer is governmental.
Intercession is governmental.
Declarations are governmental.
Righteous living is governmental.
The Kingdom of God is not merely emotional inspiration — it is heavenly government invading earth through yielded people.
Most believers understand Jesus as Savior.
Far fewer understand Him as King.
But Christ is not Jesus’ last name.
It is a kingly title.
The Anointed King.
And if He is King, then His people are citizens of a Kingdom, not members of a religious club.
The Ekklesia
Jesus said in Matthew 16:18:
“I will build My church…”
The word church is the Greek word ekklesia.
This was not originally a religious word.
It was governmental.
An ekklesia in Greek culture was a governing assembly of citizens called out to legislate, make decisions, and determine the direction of society. It was a political and governmental body.
So when Jesus used the word ekklesia, the disciples would not have heard:
“weekly religious meeting.”
They would have heard:
“governing assembly.”
Jesus was declaring:
“I am establishing My governing body in the earth.”
This changes everything about how believers should think.
The church is not supposed to merely gather.
The church is supposed to govern spiritually.
Not through control.
Not through manipulation.
But through:
truth,
righteousness,
prayer,
authority,
representing Heaven properly on the earth,
ministering in your sphere of influence.
The problem is that many believers have reduced Christianity to attendance instead of assignment.
Identity Determines Function
A king who does not know he is a king cannot rule properly.
Likewise, believers who do not understand identity will continually live beneath authority.
This is why the enemy attacks:
confidence,
self-worth,
purpose,
sonship,
and clarity.
Because identity determines function.
If believers think like slaves, they will live fearfully.
If believers think like victims, they will avoid responsibility.
If believers think like orphans, they will constantly seek validation from people instead of security from God.
Proverbs 23:7 says:
“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
Your internal agreement eventually manifests externally.
This is why scripture continually emphasizes renewing the mind.
Romans 12:2 says:
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Transformation does not happen automatically because information was heard.
Transformation happens when truth becomes agreement.
Agreement changes perception.
Perception changes expectation.
Expectation changes behavior.
Believers were never called merely to attend church services.
They were called to represent the King and reveal His Kingdom on earth.
Binding and Loosing
Jesus also gave His ekklesia “keys of the Kingdom.”
Keys represent authority.
He then said believers would “bind” and “loose.”
These are legal governmental terms.
To bind means:
“To prohibit, forbid, or declare unlawful.”
To loose means:
“To permit, release, or allow.”
This reveals something powerful:
The Kingdom operates legally.
Darkness continually seeks illegal access through agreement with fear, sin, unbelief, bitterness, and deception. But believers have been given authority through Christ to enforce Heaven’s will on earth.
This is why identity matters so deeply.
If believers do not know who they are, they will never exercise what they have been given.
An insecure believer rarely walks in authority.
The Difference Between Religion and Kingdom
Religion often focuses primarily on sin management.
The Kingdom focuses on transformation into sonship.
Religion creates spectators.
The Kingdom creates representatives.
Religion emphasizes surviving until Heaven.
The Kingdom emphasizes bringing Heaven to earth.
Jesus never instructed believers to retreat from culture in fear. He commissioned them to disciple nations.
The issue is that many believers have inherited a weak identity theology that teaches:
powerlessness,
constant defeat,
dependency without maturity,
and the separation between spiritual life and earthly responsibility.
But scripture paints a different picture.
Believers are ambassadors.
Priests.
Kings.
Citizens.
Sons and daughters.
The body of Christ.
The temple of the Holy Spirit.
The ekklesia.
All governmental language.
All identity language.
Final Thoughts
The greatest warfare in many believers’ lives is the war over identity.
Because once identity is lost, authority weakens.
When authority weakens, influence diminishes.
And when influence diminishes, culture becomes ruled by darkness instead of light.
The enemy’s goal is not simply immoral behavior.
His goal is to make believers forget who they are.
But Heaven is calling the church back to kingdom thinking.
Back to identity.
Back to authority.
Back to sonship.
Back to dominion under Christ.
Back to the mind of a king.
