16. General Welfare?

 

What is the General Welfare Clause? What does it mean? It has caused havoc. Our government has been using this clause as James Madison feared. It has expanded the government beyond proper power. The states were formed first and were to be sovereign entities with the government answering to them.  As the states, we gave only certain powers to the federal government. Listen to find out what they are and how we got where we are at today. The bottom line is if we want a government that is limited in its powers then we will remain free. If we want payouts and subsidies from them, we remain “slaves”. Nothing if free.
